Fire Cider Recipe

INGREDIENTS

½ cup peeled diced ginger root

½ cup peeled diced horseradish root

½ cup peeled diced turmeric 

**OR 1/4 cup additional ginger and 1/4 cup additional horseradish

½ cup white onion chopped

¼ cup minced garlic 

2 organic jalapeno peppers diced

2 lemons juiced and zest used

Raw apple cider vinegar

Raw organic honey

 sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)

½ teaspoon black peppercorns (optional)

Quart-sized glass jar

Wax paper

INSTRUCTIONS

Add the ginger, horseradish, onion, garlic, jalapenos and lemons juice/zest to a quart-sized jar. Pack them down lightly so that the jar is about 3/4 full. Place heavy roots at the top so that they will weigh down the herbs and jalapenos (which float). Pour apple cider vinegar over the roots/vegetables. You want everything to stay under the liquid to prevent spoilage.

If you’re using a metal lid, line it with wax paper so that the vinegar doesn’t corrode it, then put the lid on. Place in a dark, room temperature cabinet for 2-4 weeks. (A month is best)

When the cider is ready, shake well and then strain the roots/veggies using a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve. Add honey to taste and store in the fridge.

diy powder laundry soap

Fels-Naptha

4  Cups - hot tap water
1  Fels-Naptha soap bar*
1 Cup - Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda**
½ Cup Borax

Directions: 

-Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.
-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. (will gel)
-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.
-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.
-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

-Front Load Machines- ¼ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

you can also use Ivory soap or 1 5-oz. bar Dr. Bronner's pure castile soap

1 box Washing Soda (55 oz)
1 box Borax  (76 oz)
1 bar Fels Naptha soap – grated
1 bar Ivory soap – grated 

Combine all ingredients and store in a container.  Use about 2 tablespoons per load.

Putting the Ivory soap in the microwave made it puff up and once it cooled, it could easily be crumbled into a powdery consistency, saving you the time and energy of having to grate the soap.
