bubble tea [img]

Two cups of milk bubble tea with pearls are about a third of the average recommended intake of 1,800-2,000 calories for healthy individuals. A 500ml cup of brown sugar boba milk is also believed to contain as much as 92g of sugar, about three times more than the amount of sugar in a 320ml can of Coca-Cola.

The boba (aka the tiny, chewy black balls at the bottom of the drink) is made from tapioca, which is a gluten-free starch extracted from the root of a cassava plant. The actual drink is made from a tea base mixed with milk and flavoring.

How to Make Homemade Bubble Tea
Make the boba. In a large saucepan, bring 8 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Add the pearls (or boba) and stir gently until they begin to float to the top. ...
Make the bubble tea. Divide the pearls into three tall glasses. ...
Serve. Add a wide straw, and enjoy!

Bubble tea is a tea-based drink with chewy tapioca balls (aka “boba” or “pearls”) at the bottom. ... The pearls itself is usually vegan, as it's typically made from tapioca. Grass jelly, which you can also add to your drink, is also vegan.

Do you know your blood type?

Rhesus (Rh) factor is an inherited protein found on the surface of red blood cells. If your blood has the protein, you're Rh positive. If your blood lacks the protein, you're Rh negative.

Rh positive is the most common blood type. Having an Rh negative blood type is not an illness and usually does not affect your health. However, it can affect your pregnancy. Your pregnancy needs special care if you're Rh negative and your baby is Rh positive (Rh incompatibility). A baby can inherit the Rh factor from either parent.

Your health care provider will recommend a blood type and Rh factor screening test during your first prenatal visit. This will identify whether your blood cells carry the Rh factor protein.

If you're Rh negative and your baby is Rh positive, there's a potential for your body to produce antibodies that could be harmful during a subsequent pregnancy.

If you're Rh positive, no action is needed.

That's all I ever knew about blood type.

Turns out in Japan, it's like your horoscope.

Umpire Your Life by Joy Boenig Dechene

 Umpire Your Life

by Joy Boenig Dechene, M.A., R.Sc.P.

If life is a game—and even if it is not—can you accept the idea that you call the events in

your life very much as an umpire would call the balls and strikes in a baseball game?

I‟m sure you can remember the times when you did not agree with the umpire‟s call

when you were watching a baseball game. Perhaps it was because you were viewing the

pitch from another perspective. In the case of a sporting event, it does not matter what

we think when it comes to the final say. In other words, the umpire‟s point of view is the

one that counts. He is the one that says “It ain‟t nothing „til I calls it.” That is what I

would like you to do with the experiences in your life.

Why not call them good? As soon as you do, they will be. That has been my experience.

No matter what the situation may look like at the time, as soon as I DECLARE IT GOOD,

the whole situation changes. Since God the Good is all there is, I know that is the intended outcome.

I love what Joseph said to his brothers who had sold him into slavery in Egypt. They

came to him for help when they were starving. Joseph by then was an assistant to the

Pharaoh. Summing up what had happened to him Joseph said to his brothers “You

meant it for evil, God meant it for good.”

If I call an event good, regardless of appearances, it is just like surrendering to the Will

of God. God knows what lies just beyond this point in my life. God means it for good,

even though it may not look like my idea of good.

The Golden Key by Emmet Fox

The Golden Key

by Emmet Fox (1886-1951)

1931

This short essay, just 976 words, is a classic of the American New Thought movement (though

Emmet Fox was an Irishman). I include it in our course because it is a perfect example of the

practical use of the 180 principle, a principle foundational to the highest teachings of the great

religions. The principle is: Turn your back on the world and its problems and realize that only God

(or Being) is real and is here for you. Fox has had a major influence on Alcoholics Anonymous.

Fox himself put the principles this way (in his book The Sermon on the Mount, 1934):

God is the only power, and . . . evil is insubstantial; . . . we form

our own destiny by our thoughts and our beliefs; . . . conditions do

not matter when we pray; . . . time and space and matter are human illusions; . . . there is a solution to every problem; . . . man is the

child of God, and God is perfect good.

Scientific prayer will enable you to get yourself or anyone else, out of any difficulty. It is the golden key to harmony and happiness.

To those who have no acquaintance with the mightiest power in existence, this may appear to be

a rash claim, but it needs only a fair trial to prove that, without a shadow of doubt, it is a just

one. You need take no one's word for it, and you should not. Simply try it for yourself.

God is omnipotent, and we are God's image and likeness and have dominion over all things. This

is the inspired teaching, and it is intended to be taken literally, at its face value. The ability to

draw on this power is not the special prerogative of the mystic or the saint, as is so often supposed, or even of the highly trained practitioner. Everyone has this ability. Whoever you are,

wherever you may be, the golden key to harmony is in your hand now. This is because in scientific prayer it is God who works, and not you, and so your particular limitations or weaknesses are

of no account in the process. You are only the channel through which the divine action takes

place, and your treatment will be just the getting of yourself out of the way.

Beginners often get startling results the first time, for all that is essential is to have an open mind

and sufficient faith to try the experiment. Apart from that, you may hold any views on religion, or

none.

As for the actual method of working, like all fundamental things, it is simplicity itself. All you have

to do is this:

Stop thinking about the difficulty, whatever it is, and think about God instead.

This is the complete rule, and if only you will do this, the trouble, whatever it is, will disappear. It

makes no difference what kind of trouble it is. It may be a big thing or a little thing: it may concern health, finance, a lawsuit, a quarrel, an accident, or anything else conceivable: but whatever

it is, stop thinking about it and think of God instead—that is all you have to do.

It could not be simpler, could it? God could scarcely have made it simpler, and yet it never fails to

work when given a fair trial.

Do not try to form a picture of God, which is impossible. Work by rehearsing anything or everything that you know about God. God is wisdom, truth, inconceivable love. God is present everywhere, has infinite power, knows everything, and so on. It matters not how well you may think

you understand these things: go over them repeatedly.

But you must stop thinking of the trouble, whatever it is. The rule is, to think about God. If you

are thinking about your difficulty, you are not thinking about God. To be continually glancing over

your shoulder in order to see how matters are progressing is fatal, because it is thinking of the

trouble, and you must think of God and nothing else. Your object is to drive the thought of the

difficulty out of your consciousness, for a few moments at least, substituting for it the thought of

God. This is the crux of the whole thing. If you can become so absorbed in this consideration of

the spiritual world that you forget for a while about the difficulty, you will find that you are safely

and comfortably out of your difficulty—that your demonstration is made.

In order to "golden key" a troublesome person or a difficult situation, think. "Now I am going to

'golden key' John, or Mary. or that threatened danger": then proceed to drive all thought of John,

or Mary, or the danger out of your mind, replacing it with the thought of God.

By working in this way about a person, you are not seeking to influence his conduct in any way,

except that you prevent him from injuring or annoying you, and you do him nothing but good.

Thereafter, he is certain to be in some degree a better, wiser, and more spiritual person, just because you have "golden keyed" him. A pending lawsuit or other difficulty would probably fade out

harmlessly without coming to a crisis, justice being done to all parties concerned.

If you find that you can do this very quickly, you may repeat the operation several times a day

with intervals between. Be sure, however, each time you have done it, that you drop all thought

of the matter until the next time. This is important.

We have said that the golden key is simple, and so it is, but of course it is not always easy to

turn. If you are very frightened or worried, at first it may be difficult to get your thoughts away

from material things. But by constantly repeating a statement of absolute Truth, such as: There is

no power but God; I am the child of God, filled and surrounded by the perfect peace of God; God

is love; God is guiding me now; or, perhaps best and simplest of all: God is with me. However

mechanical or trite it may seem, you will soon find that the treatment has begun to "take," and

that your mind is clearing. Do not struggle violently; be quiet, but insistent. Each time you find

your attention wandering, switch it back to God.

Do not try to think in advance what the solution to your difficulty will be. This is called "outlining"

and will only delay the demonstration. Leave the question of ways and means to God. You want

to get out of your difficulty that is sufficient. You do your half, and God will never fail to do God's.

"Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). [Which means, when translated from religious language: Whoever understands how Consciousness works, and uses Its

power with knowledge and confidence, will manifest his good. AD]

Best M&M cookie recipes

 M&M chocolate chip cookies

We love chocolate. Here are three recipes for M&M cookies anyone can make.

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup light brown sugar

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup of chocolate chips

1 cup M&M’s, plus more for tops if desired

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line two baking sheets with silicone baking mats or parchment paper.

In a large bowl, using a mixer, cream together the butter and sugars for 1 minute. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until combined.

Add the flour, baking soda, and salt and stir mix just until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and M&M’s. Refrigerate dough for 15 to 30 minutes if time allows.

Using a large cookie scoop (about 3 Tablespoons), scoop the cookie dough onto the baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Place extra M&M’s on the top of the cookies if desired.

Bake for 7-10 minutes, or until the edges are barely golden brown. Allow cookies to set on pan for 2 minutes, and then remove to a cooling rack.

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

1 ½ cups candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M's®)

Directions

Instructions Checklist
  • In a large bowl, mix sugar, eggs, shortening, and vanilla thoroughly. Add flour, salt, and baking soda to creamed mixture. Blend well. Add 3/4 cup candies.

  • Drop dough by teaspoonful onto the baking sheet. Slightly push a few candies on top of each dough ball with remaining candies.

#3 Soft M&M cookie

▢1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, see note
▢1 teaspoon baking powder
▢1/2 teaspoon baking soda
▢1/4 teaspoon salt
▢1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened but still cool
▢1/2 cup granulated sugar
▢1/3 cup brown sugar, lightly packed, make sure it's fresh and soft
▢1 large egg
▢2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
▢1 1/2 cups M&M's or a mixture of M&M's and chocolate chips, divided
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with silicone mats or parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, beat butter and both sugars for 2 minutes, until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. On low speed, add in flour mixture and mix until just combined.
Gently stir in M&M's/chocolate chips  - I usually add about 3/4 cup into the batter, the rest get pressed on top of the cookies before baking.
Scoop balls of dough, between 1.5 and 2.5 tablespoon portions (a little smaller or a little larger than a golf ball). Drop dough onto prepared baking sheets leaving an inch or two for spreading. Using the remaining M&M's, press several (5 or so) onto the top of each mound of dough. Keep in mind that the cookies will spread out while baking, so is generous with the M&M's.
Bake for 8-11 minutes (see note), until the edges of the cookies are set but the center is still slightly underdone, this will create a soft cookie. For a crispier cookie, continue baking for another minute two.
Place the baking sheets on wire racks and allow the cookies to cool completely. They will firm up as they cool. Optional: for a slightly thicker cookie, you can gently press the edges of each cookie inward (just a bit!) while they are still warm.

"IF" By B. F. AUSTIN

 "IF"

By B. F. AUSTIN

IF

I can throw a single ray of light

Across the darkened pathway of another;

If I can aid some soul to clearer sight

Of life and duty, and thus bless my brother;

If I can wipe from any human cheek a tear,

I shall not then have lived in vain while here.

If I can guide some erring one to truth,

Inspire within his heart a sense of duty;

If I can plant within the soul of rosy youth

A sense of right, a love of truth and beauty;

If I can teach one man that God and Heaven are near,

I shall not then have lived in vain while here.

If from my mind I banish doubt and fear,

And keep my life attuned to love and kindness;

If I can scatter light and hope and cheer,

And help remove the curse of mental blindness;

If I can make more joy, more hope, less pain,

I shall not then have lived and loved in vain.

If by life's roadside I can plant a tree,

Beneath whose shade some wearied head may rest;

Though I may never share its shade, or see

Its beauty, I shall yet be truly blestThough no one knows my name, nor drops a flow'r upon my bier,

I shall not then have lived in vain while here.

The Town Musicians of Bremen

 The Town Musicians of Bremen

A Fairy Tale by the Brothers Grimm

Once upon a time, there was an old donkey. He became too old to work. So his owner planned to get rid of him. But Donkey had other ideas. He decided to go to the city of Bremen and become a town musician.

Donkey left early one morning on the road to Bremen. After some time he came upon an old dog lying in the road. The old dog had left his owner for the same reason as Donkey. Donkey invited Dog to join him in becoming a musician in Bremen. Dog gratefully accepted.

Soon, the pair came across an old cat lying in the road. The old cat had a story similar to Donkey and Dog. Donkey invited Cat to join their band bound for Bremen and Cat gladly agreed.

Toward midday, the three animals came across an old rooster. Like the other animals, Rooster had served his master well. But he was now old and no longer useful. The group was happy to invite Rooster to join their band bound for Bremen.

Together, the foursome continued down the long road to Bremen. At last, it got too dark to travel. The animals began to settle in a forest for the night. From his perch in a tree, Rooster could see the lights from a house in the distance.

“Let us go to this house,” Rooster suggested to his friends. “Perhaps they have food and a warm place for us to sleep.” Being cold and hungry, the other animals readily agreed.

As they approached the house, they heard loud booming voices. Donkey crept up to a window and peeked inside. He saw a group of robbers enjoying a grand feast at the dining room table. The room around them was filled with stolen goods. The animals devised a plan to scare away the robbers.

Each of the animals climbed on top of the Donkey. The dog stood on Donkey. The cat stood on Dog. And Rooster stood on top of Cat. In the dark, they looked like a fearsome creature. They walked in front of the great window, and each began to holler his special tune. The donkey brayed, Dog barked, Cat yowled, and Rooster crowed. The animals continued their noisy song as they crashed through the window together.

The bellowing monster that crashed into the house terrified the robbers. The robbers dropped everything and fled the house at once, leaving their meal and their treasures behind.

It was warm and dry inside the house. The four animals were famished. They finished off the leftovers from the robbers’ grand feast. Tired, they blew out the lights and went to sleep.

Sometime later, the robbers looked back at the house and saw that it had gone dark. Everything in the house appeared to be quiet. The captain sent one of the robbers to go back and investigate.

When the robber got to the house, he opened the door and tiptoed inside. Instantly awake, Cat’s eyes glowed like embers in the night. Thinking Cat’s eyes were live coals in the oven, the robber tried to light a match with them. Angered at being poked in the eyes, Cat jumped into the robber’s face, spitting, hissing, and scratching.

The robber took a few steps backward and stepped on Dog’s tail. The dog jumped up and bit him in the leg. The robber tried to run for the door but bumped into Donkey, who gave him a strong kick. Alarmed by all the noise, Rooster began crowing from his perch near the ceiling. The robber ran off bruised and frightened.

The robber limped back to his camp as fast as he could. “There is a witch in the house,” he told the captain. “She blew at me and scratched my face with her long fingers. A man stabbed me in the leg with a knife, and then a giant hit me with a wooden club. A fourth man on the roof began shouting, ‘Bring the rascal here!’ It was all I could do to escape with my life!”

From that time on, the robbers never returned to the house.

However, the four Bremen Musicians liked the house a lot. They decided to stay. They never got to Bremen. But they lived happily ever after.
