Toshiko Takaezu

View Toshiko Takaezu in her home and studio as she speaks about her ceramic work and the inspiration she takes from nature and places that are important to her. This documentary expounds on Takaezu’s past, art schooling, and early and late work, as well as thoughts from her past students.

Credit: Toshiko Takaezu: Portrait of a Ceramic Artist was produced in 1993 by Susan Wallner for State of the Arts, a weekly, half-hour television series spotlighting the arts industry in New Jersey. The story won a CINE Golden Eagle and a New York Emmy for Outstanding Original Music.

State of the Arts debuted on NJN Public Television in 1981, and aired as a co-production of NJN and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts until 2011. The show now airs regionally on NJTV and WHYY, with new episodes co-produced by the State Arts Council and The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, in cooperation with PCK Media.
