Homeschooling Through Summer 2016

Summer is calling our name. Two more official homeschool days until we reach our 180th school day for the 2015-2016 school year. We usually spend our summers relaxing, playing at the local beaches, visiting friends & family, attending bible schools, and not thinking about Homeschooling!!!!

This summer is going to be different for the Ader Kids. I'm sure there will be a bible school or two that the kids will be attending, or volunteering at, but I want to start a weekly unit study. I've brainstormed a few topics and found a few resources on Pinterest.

1)  Its no secret we have a Presidential Election this fall, so our first study will be on Presidents.

2)  This is a 19 lesson writing unit. I would love for my children to write more. This seems like it would be a great match for us.

3)  I have to include a Minecraft Unit. Summer wouldn't be the same without Minecraft.

4)  I found this Worm Unit! We had no success with the meal worms .. we didn't have proper ventilation and the container grew mold.

This is a Mothers Day tradition for our family, now that we've been going on Mothers Day for the past four years. Usually, we follow the trail and stop by the mansion and run in the fields. this year we decided to hit the trails, A and B trails. Which is how we discovered the Carrie Murray Nature Center. Lots of wonderful art sculptures to look at -along the trails and on the grounds of the nature center and plenty of creatures to see.

Here are some of the Textbooks we used this school year (2015-2016) Grades 2, 4, 6

According to Google

rou·tine
ro͞oˈtēn/
noun
plural noun: routines
1.
a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.
"I settled down into a routine of work and sleep"
synonyms: procedure, practice, pattern, drill, regimen

We do not have a routine at our house or during our homeschool day. Things pop up, kids get sick, or hungry (.. or both) and we have to come up with a different plan on the spot. I start each homeschool year with a lesson plan book that I've filled up with the first two months full of wonderful lessons, activities, outings, and other projects. I purchased three on clearance for $1.75 at Lakeshore back in 2014 and I thought it would help me for three years. Well, I'm still using the first book.

Now that its the end of the year, I thought, I'd share what we have been using for the upper grades in our homeschool. I had a totally different plan starting out, so a lot of what we are doing now is what worked and is working for us. I'm almost sad to see summer arriving because the kids now know whats expected of them and they are doing excellent with their schoolwork.
