The first kids of US presidents are in the public eye almost as much as their parents. They dictate fashion trends, appear on their parents' behalf at embassies around the world, and sometimes host senior prom in the White House East Room.
You know, normal kid stuff.
But when the first family departs 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., the spotlight typically turns away from them.
Donald Trump's 10-year-old son Barron, among the youngest first children in recent decades, won't be moving to the White House right away he'll finish his school year out at his current school. But he'll soon be following in the footsteps of other famous first kids. Barron would, in fact, be the first "first son" to live at the White House since the Kennedy era.
The White House has 132 rooms, including 35 bathrooms, plus abundant grounds and surrounding gardens. That's plenty of room for a president and his family - and also for treehouses, ponies, cats and dogs.
Over the decades, countless kids have moved in and brought their toys to the famous house. Some even brought pets, like Caroline Kennedy and Quentin Roosevelt and their ponies.
For those who had outgrown ponies and treehouses, the White House also offered plenty of space for a romantic wedding: Tricia Nixon Cox, the daughter of President Richard Nixon, married in the White House Rose Garden in 1971.
Some, like the Obama girls and the Kennedy children, lived at this most famous of addresses. Others just spent a great deal of time there, like Donald Trump's son Barron is set to do.
