In our state homeschooling in the winter is kind of depressing. It's cold, cloudy, and usually windy. We like to go to the library but in the winter if we don't have to go out, it's best we don't. Water freezes in the road and you never know if you'll hit ice or black ice.
Today I'm preparing a list of things for winter boredom blues.
We have several musical instruments in the house. We even have a train whistle and kazoo if they want to explore alternative sounds, I'll bring those up.
Thanks to the Book Thing of Baltimore we have an awesome home library. As we read the books, we'll pass them along to others or just donate them back to The Book Thing.
We're crafty people! I am always conscious of what art supplies we need and what the kids have on their wish list of supplies. If I see supplies at a great price sometimes I'll pick it up to have on hand for when it's needed. I feel if the kids love drawing and painting I'll support that!
A stocked pantry is definitely a must when you're homeschooling. In the winter it can be a little more challenging to get motivated to travel on cold nasty days. If we have something in the pantry I'll be using that instead of traveling. So it's a smart idea to stock up on your favorites.
Pet supplies are also important. We like to say having chickens is part of our homeschooling lesson. Making sure we have enough hay and food is definitely something we'll be stocking up. Chickens require fresh water and a comfortable place to lay their eggs. Having feed and hay on hand will help.
