HARPURSVILLE, NY — April the giraffe is finally about to go into labor at Animal Adventure Park in upstate New York, zookeepers said Friday.
Millions of viewers have been glued to a live cam of the pregnant giraffe for more than six weeks now, watching and waiting — with waning patience and growing skepticism — for her to bless us with an adorable, doll-sized version of herself, albeit covered in goo.
"All observations, behavior, and predictions suggest a calf today, tonight — we would be shocked to get through the weekend without our newest addition," zookeepers wrote on Facebook Friday morning. "This is what we have all been waiting for!"
By nightfall, there was still no baby. Still, "signs of contractions continue," the zoo wrote in its Friday evening update. "Everything she is doing is surely pointing to her going into labor soon."
Here's a live feed from April's pen, now officially sponsored by Toys R Us (!):
It's been more than a month and a half since Animal Adventure Park officials first posted a live stream of April's pen to YouTube.
Maybe April just wanted to wait until April to have her baby.
"Keepers are onsite overnight and support staff are on stand by," the zoo said.
