Reviewing Addition Facts and Fact Learning Strategies

Fact Learning - Addition

Mastery of the addition facts is the expectation in Grade 2. This knowledge
is then applied to 10s, 100s, and 1000s in Grade 3. If 3 + 4 = 7, then 30 +
40 = 70, 300 + 400 = 700, and 3000 + 4000 = 7,000.
Note: The sums of 10s are a little more difficult than the sums of 100s and 1000s because
when the answer is more than ten 10s, students have to translate the
number. For example, for 70 + 80, 7 tens and 8 tens are 15 tens, or one
hundred fifty. At the beginning of grade 4, it is important to ensure that
students review the addition facts to 18 and the fact learning strategies.
