Lesson Plan Title : A Map of My Mouth
Age Range: Kindergarten through Grade 2 (Early Elementary)
Overview and Purpose: In this lesson, students create a map of their mouth while looking in the mirror. They note how many teeth they have and which kinds.
Objective: The student will be able to draw a map of his mouth while looking in the mirror.
Resources:
Hand held mirror
Apples
Teacher created worksheet with the outline of the top and bottom gums
Activities:
Talk with students about the different types of teeth. Give them each a piece of an apple. Ask them which teeth they use to bite it and which ones they use to chew it. Have them try to reverse it. Discuss what happens.
Give students each a hand held mirror and a worksheet. Have them draw a map of their mouth on the worksheet and describe what each type of tooth does.
Wrap Up:
This activity can also be done in pairs. Have students take turns mapping each other's mouths. Students can also map one of their parents' mouths and compare it to their map. How is it different? How is it the same?
