Our First Backyard Chicken Egg

Here it is!! Princess was the first chicken to lay an egg. I thought, for sure, it would be Pikachu. Pikachu has been the first to run out of the coop in the morning since we've had the new coop. Lately, she's the last one out and she's just hanging out inside for a while after the other hens run out.
Yesterday, the kids were out in the run with the girls cleaning up and Isabelle saw Princess go behind the pallet and lay the egg. The kids were so excited they ran inside to tell me. Princess was a gift from our neighbor, so they had to run down and show her.
The egg was rubbery and missing the shell. We've had layer feed in the feeder for a few weeks now. I guess, I need to get oyster shells.
After all the excitement, the kids were back out in the coop praising Princess and playing with the chicks and they come running inside, "Mom, she laid another egg!!", they shouted!!
We checked online and its totally possible. And its 100% confirmed it was from Princess once again because Isabelle saw it happen! How amazing, our hen laid two eggs in one day.

Princess is a silkie and red sex link chicken. She has some reddish brown spots on her wings. Just yesterday afternoon we were thinking, she was a few weeks younger than Pikachu, but they must be about the same age.
Having backyard chickens has been an amazing experience. I think my kids are better because of this whole experience. They have showed great compassion and responsibility towards these roos and hens. I've watched them mature and form bonds with their chickens. They can't do that with a kindle or an ipad!
